Foods to avoid in your diet to control and eliminate inflammation

  • Sugar, from any source includes fruit sugar (fructose), all syrups, treacles, fruit juices etc.
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Processed foods esp. highly processed meats like hams, salamis, cheap sausages etc.
  • French Fries / Chips
  • Peanuts
  • Fast Foods
  • White and brown wheat- based bread (occasional sour dough rye is fine as long as there is no gluten sensitivity)
  • Pasta
  • Ice Cream
  • Processed Cheeses (traditionally made goat, sheep and organic cow cheeses are fine)
  • Most commercial snack foods
  • Standard cooking oils i.e. seed and vegetable oils such as sunflower, corn, rapeseed etc.
  • Soda / fizzy drinks, caffeine and alcohol
  • Foods to eat to control and eliminate inflammation
  • Oily fish – mackerel, sardine, herring, Atlantic Salmon (wild)
  • Fresh whole fruits ( max. 2 a day)
  • Bright multi-coloured vegetables, especially dark green leafy veg, garlic, onions, leeks
  • Green tea
  • Water
  • Extra Virgin Olive oil
  • Fermented foods i.e. Kefir, live natural yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi
  • Grass fed / free- range meats
  • Nuts, legumes and seeds
  • Any grains eaten should be whole and soaked for at least 24 hours in water at room temperature with a little vinegar to reduce inflammatory factors.
  • Use of raw apple cider  vinegar is highly recommended (1tbsp on a little water just before eating) plus a large glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning.
